Champion of the Child

The ECD Coalition is pleased to sponsor the “Champion of the Child” and "Family-Friendly Business" Award every year. This award is to acknowledge a community member who makes a real difference to the lives of young children and families.

This year's (2009) recipients are Margaret Heater and the Science Centre.

We look at the following criteria:

1. Number of years of service on behalf of children
2. Knowledge of early childhood development issues
3. Evidence of involvement with young children and their families on a local community level
4. Individual's influences on early childhood development beyond ordinary expectations especially at the local community level
5. Evidence of speaking out on behalf of young children in ways that reflect the goals and purposes of the North Okanagan Early Childhood Development Coalition.
